LIVE FUTURES REPORT 17/07: LME copper price notches positive close in thin turnover; zinc slips below $2,200/t

The three-month copper price on the London Metal Exchange was higher at the close of trading on Friday July 17, with thin turnover and a tighter forward curve doing little to stop upward price action, while zinc futures slipped below nearby support levels at the close.

Copper's outright price on the LME closed at $6,448 per tonne on Friday afternoon, recovering from an intraday low of $6,387.50 per tonne, while turnover was low at just over 10,000 lots exchanged.
Prompting the move higher, further production concerns from Chile - the world's largest copper producer - emerged this week, with workers at two of Antafogasta's Chilean operations voting in favour of industrial action earlier this week.
