Aurubis, Europe's biggest copper producer, is considering plans to set up a new copper scrap processing facility in North America to tap into the growing availability of raw materials outside China and Malaysia, the company's chief executive told Fastmarkets.

Aurubis, which acquired recycling firm Metallo in May last year, is now investigating its options in expanding its scrap-processing capacity outside Europe, chief executive officer Roland Harings said in an interview with Fastmarkets on Monday October 11 during LME Week.
Currently, 43% of Aurubis' copper cathodes are made from recycled raw materials, Harings said.
In the 2019-20 financial year, the German producer generated 1.031 million tonnes of copper cathodes, according to its website.
