London's Metropolitan Police have released the names of two of the perpetrators of Saturday evening's terrorist attack, as polls show the U.K.'s governing party is losing ground in Thursday's general election.
Khuram Shazad Butt and Rachid Redouane were named on Monday as the attackers. The third attacker is yet to be named.
Butt, who was 27 years old, was a British citizen born in Pakistan. He was known to security services and had appeared in a televisions documentary "The Jihadis Next Door", which was broadcast last year.
It is also reported that Butt was reported to the police as a potential danger two years ago.
Redouane was 30 years old and had claimed to be Moroccan and Libyan.
The fact that Butt was known to authorities before to the attacks has called into question Prime Minister Theresa May's record. May was Home Secretary prior to becoming prime minister last year. The Home Secretary is responsible for the internal affairs in the U.K., including policing.
May's chief rival in Thursday election, Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn, has seized on this fact and called for her resignation on Monday.
"Indeed I would, because there's been calls made by a lot of very responsible people on this who are very worried that she was at the Home Office for all this time, presided over these cuts in police numbers and is now saying that we have a problem - yes, we do have a problem, we should never have cut the police numbers," Corbyn told ITV.
With just two days left in campaigning before Thursday election, rhetoric from all parties has turned to homeland security and prevention of extremist behavior.
Prime Minister May has promised to a review of counterterrorism strategy if reelected in the wake of three attacks in the past 10 weeks that have killed 34 people.
The governing Conservative party has seen its lead fall by 16 points in the past month, according to a new poll.
A Survation poll for morning show Good Morning Britain put the Conservatives on 41.5% with the Corbyn's Labour party on 40.4%. The pollster had given the Conservatives a 17-point lead at the beginning of May.
