Lower offers weigh on Asian slab market

Import prices for steel slab in Southeast Asia and East Asia fell over the past week due to lower offers amid an increase in supply, although few deals were reported with re-rollers generally still struggling with weakening currencies and slow sales for finished steel.

Metal Bulletin's assessment of import prices for slab in Southeast Asia and East Asia was $520-535 per tonne cfr for the week ended Monday September 10, down $10 per tonne from $530-545 per tonne cfr a week earlier.Southeast Asian slab was said to have been sold at around $530-535 per tonne cfr over the past week.There was also speculation that Ukrainian slab had been sold to Thailand and Taiwan at $515-525 per tonne cfr. But because the Ukrainian mill in question is currently controlled by pro-Russia rebels, its products are deemed to be illegal and their prices tend to be lower...
