RAPAPORT... Lucara Diamond Corp. has unearthed a 393.5-carat diamond from its Karowe mine in Botswana, the seventh over 300 carats this year. The miner recovered the gem-quality, white, type IIa diamond from the site's south lobe M/PK(S) area, known for its large, valuable rough, it said last week. The company also found a 156.2-carat, high-quality rough from the same production run. Of the seven 300-carat-plus stones the company has found this year, this is the third gem-quality one from that section of Karowe, Lucara noted. It previously turned up 341- and 378-carat, high-quality diamonds from the area in January."This recent recovery continues to demonstrate the strong and consistent resource performance of the south lobe," said Lucara CEO Eira Thomas. "[These diamonds] add to the collection of significant diamond recoveries in 2021, as Lucara looks to ramp up construction activities for the proposed underground expansion at Karowe."Image: The 393.5-carat rough diamond.
