VANCOUVER, British Columbia, March 27, 2017 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) - The Mining Association of British Columbia ("MABC" or the "Association") announces that Karina Bri??o, President and CEO, has decided to advance to a new chapter in her life and will be taking on a challenging new industry assignment in her native Chile in early May 2017.

"On behalf of the Board of Directors I would like to thank Ms. Bri??o for delivering extraordinary commitment and effort to the Association since she assumed the role in August 2011. She has progressively and steadily enhanced the MABC's impact and influence for all of our members," stated Mr. Bob Gallagher, Chair of MABC. He continued, "Ms. Bri??o achieved meaningful results for industry and the province during a tumultuous period including significant regulatory and policy change, legal and title decisions, and commodity price impacts to operations. She proved to be a steady hand and positive influence for members, associates, regulators and politicians alike during that time." He concluded, "Her restructuring, refinement and financial stewardship of the MABC makes it a stronger and more focused voice for mining in BC as a direct result of her leadership."

Prior to joining the Association Ms. Bri??o was an Assistant Deputy Minister in the Ministry of Energy and Mines, and she continues to sit on various not-for-profit boards. She was recognized for her work in the B.C. Public Service in July 2012 and was presented a Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal in recognition of her contributions to Canada. In March 2016, she was a recipient of a 2016 Influential Women in Business Awards presented by the Business in Vancouver Media Group. Later in 2016, Ms. Bri??o was named one of Canada's Most Powerful Women with a Top 100 Award presented by the Women's Executive Network.

The Association and its members wish Ms. Bri??o every success in her future endeavours and will appoint a new President and CEO shortly to allow for a successful transition.
