Metalliage considers options as Quebec extends shutdown

Canada-based ferro-titanium producer Metalliage is considering its options after local authorities in Canada said on Sunday April 5 that all non-essential business will be closed until May 4, extending its earlier order by three weeks.

Metalliage has sought to avoid being shut, arguing that it provides an essential service so as to enable it to restart production at its Quebec-based plant. The plant has been shut since the provincial government of Quebec ordered non-essential services to shut down for three weeks from midnight on March 24.
The initial move by the government followed international efforts to limit the spread and impact of the global Covid-19 pandemic, with many countries issuing directives for non-essential services to be shut for a given period.
