Mexican ferrous scrap prices bolstered by gains in US market

Mexican ferrous scrap prices soared last week following gains in the United States' market, continuing the upward drive that began in late December in the region of Monterrey - capital of the northeastern Mexican state of Nuevo Le??n - and in the country's central Baj?-o region.

Fastmarkets' weekly assessment of the steel scrap No1 HMS, consumer buying price, delivered mill Bajio was at 5,200 pesos ($276) per tonne on Tuesday January 14, up by 5.1% from 4,950 pesos per tonne the previous week. Similarly, the assessment of the consumer buying price for No1 busheling, delivered mill Bajio rose by 6.7% to 5,600 pesos per tonne from 5,250 pesos per tonne in the same comparison.
