Mexico anti-dumping probe 'unlikely to affect' Russia slab exports

Steel slab exports from Russia were unlikely to be significantly affected by an anti-dumping probe started in Mexico in September, because of the lack of domestic production and the rising flat-steel rolling capacities in the country, market sources have told Fastmarkets.

The Mexican economy secretariat launched an anti-dumping investigation into imports of steel slab from Russia and Brazil after it received a request from ArcelorMittal Mexico, which produces slab and long steel products in the country.
Government publication Diario oficial de la Federaci??n reported that, according to ArcelorMittal, imports of steel slab from Russia and Brazil between 2017 and 2019 had been carried out under conditions of price discrimination and had inflicted damage on Mexican national production.
The company proposed that an investigation should look at the period from January 1 to December 31, 2019.
Fastmarkets' price archive shows that the assessment for steel slab, export, fob Black Sea, CIS, averaged $421.56 per tonne in 2019, compared with $510.37 per tonne in 2018 and $393.49 per tonne to date in 2020.
