Mogale Alloys will idle ferro-chrome furnaces in challenging environment

South African ferro-chrome producer Mogale Alloys will idle two furnaces amid low ferro-chrome prices and rising costs, owner Afarak announced on Wednesday June 12.

The plant normally produces 110,000 tonnes per year of ferro-chrome. It will continue to produce 4,000 tonnes per month of plasma charge chrome and 1,400 tpm of medium carbon ferro-chrome.The news came just a few weeks after Helsinki-headquartered Afarak announced a loss of ?,?7.5 million ($8.5 million) in the first quarter of 2019 due to low prices.Spot ferro-chrome prices have been weakening...
