More closures, layoffs sting metals in US, WARN notices show [CORRECTED]

A roundup of layoff announcements contained in Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notice (WARN) Act letters filed to state labor agencies in the United States thus far this summer, including at least six full plant closures, indexed by sector:

Aerospace:  Boeing announced that 1,608 employees will be laid off at its operations in Puget Sound, Washington, effective October 2-28. Textron Aviation on July 14 announced the layoff of 800 employees in Wichita, Kansas. Howmet Aerospace - a manufacturer of engines, metal fasteners and forged wheels - announced 239 temporary layoffs at its Rancho Cucamonga, California, site in July. Separately the company added 152 temporary layoffs in Fontana, California, plus a permanent reduction of 13 positions there. Honeywell International's Aerospace Business in Minnesota is set to begin laying off 212 employees on August 7. Weber Metals, which forges titanium and aluminium components, said it will permanently lay off 169 workers in Paramount, California, effective August 21.   Designed Metal Connections, a provider of metal fittings for aviation hydraulics, in separate announcements said it permanently cut 159 jobs and temporarily laid off 96 employees in Gardena, California, during July.
