(IDEX Online) - Australian miner Lucapa today reported further positive results from bulk sampling of three kimberlite targets at its Lulo mine, in Angola. The most encouraging kimberlite (L440) yielded eight diamonds with a total weight of 4.16 carats, the largest of which weighed 2.04 carats, from 1,460m3 of material.Lucapa says the primary sources for the large, high-value alluvial diamonds already being mined at Lulo have yet to be discovered. More than 560 geophysical anomalies have been identified, most of which have proven to be kimberlite when drilled, making the concession a very prospective area. Lucapa says two more geophysical targets have been confirmed as kimberlites, and L440 is 14th kimberlite to be found to be diamondiferous. In February it recovered 23 diamonds with a total of weight of 16.32 carats from another kimberlite (L164). The largest was 2.38 carats and average size was 0.71 carats. The Lulo Kimberlite Exploration Licence is held through "Project Lulo JV" whose partners are Lucapa (39 per cent) Endiama (51per cent) and Rosas & Petalas (10 per cent). In April, Lucapa said it mined record volumes at the Lulo alluvial mine.  A total of 7,162 carats from Lulo were sold during Q1 (ended 31 March), an increase of 175 per cent on the same period in 2022.Pic courtesy Lucapa
