(IDEX Online) - Mountain Province Diamond (MPD) says it has found more kimberlite during explorations at its Kennady North project in Northwest Territories, Canada, on the edge of the Arctic Circle. It's in addition to the kimberlite identified earlier this year, also on land surrounding the Gahcho Kue mine. The two finds are 450 meters apart.MPD said in a statement that the kimberlite was "a new and distinct occurrence" discovered after a review of historical horizontal loop electromagnetic ('HLEM') and magnetic geophysical data and was drilled at the end of the summer program. It said further drilling of the kimberlite was planned for next year. In May it said it had found kimberlite in three out of four locations during a winter exploration programThe Kennady North project covers 107,000 ha of claims and leases that completely surround the Gahcho Kue diamond mine. MPD owns 49 per cent of the mine, the remainder is owned by De Beers Canada. Kennady North has been the focus of exploration by numerous operators since 1992.Other mines in the region - Ekati, operated by Arctic Canadian Diamond - and Rio Tinto's Diavik are expected to close in 2024 and 2025, respectively. MPD's Gahcho Kue is expected to close in 2028.Pic of Kennady North, courtesy Mountain Province Diamond
