Mystery of 13-ct Pink Diamond Pulled From Sale

(IDEX Online) - A pink diamond valued at up to $35m has been withdrawn without explanation from auction in New York.The 13.15-carat emerald-cut fancy vivid gem, described as "VVS1 clarity, potentially internally flawless", had been due to lead Christie's Magnificent Jewels auction on 6 December.The auction house confirmed the diamond, belonging to a private collector, had been pulled from the sale, but declined to elaborate. The estimate was $25m to $35m.Earlier this month, Christie's sold the 18.18-carat pear-shaped Fortune Pink for $28.8m (Estimate $25m to $35m) in Geneva.When it announced the sale of the 13.15-ct stone, Rahul Kadakia, International Head of Christie's Jewellery said: "Following the success of The Fortune Pink, which achieved almost $30m last week in Geneva, we are proud to have been approached by a private collector to offer this incredible diamond with impressive saturation, step-cut facets and a clarity grade of potentially Internally Flawless."The highest price ever paid for any pink diamond is $71.2m, by China's biggest jeweler, Chow Tai Fook, at an auction held by Sotheby's Hong Kong, in April 2017.
