RAPAPORT... The Natural Color Diamond Association (NCDIA) has releasedits first educational video on yellow diamonds, claiming they are the biggestgrowth opportunity for colored diamonds in the "affordable" jewelry market. In the video, the group's educational director, Thomas Gelb, covers topics including what causes color in diamonds, the ranges of coloravailable, and where the stones occur in the earth. It also provides comparisonswith other yellow gemstones such as sapphires. It is aimed at both consumersand members of the trade, with the purpose of enabling viewers to talkknowledgably about the subject, the NCDIA said. "It is important to go beyond the standard explanations thatthe scientific analysis of a grading report provides," Alan Bronstein, president of the NCDIA, said last week. "While it is important to break downsome of the technical information, which we do, the public needs to feelencouraged and free to make a personal decision, based on the affordability andbeauty of the color for them." The video is 30 minutes long and costs $100 to view.Image: Rio Diamonds
