New Zealand consumer price index rises 0.1 percent in Q4

WELLINGTON, Jan 25 (Reuters) - New Zealand's consumer price index (CPI) rose 0.1 percent in the fourth quarter, falling short of expectations, Statistics New Zealand data showed on Thursday.

Annual growth was at 1.6 percent, well below the 1.9 percent forecast by economists, who had predicted a 0.4 percent quarterly rise.

The New Zealand dollar sunk to $0.7345 from $0.7432 before the release.
