(Kitco News) - Nexa Resources (NYSE and TSXSymbol: NEXA) announced yesterday that the operating license for the Aripuan??greenfield project was granted by the Environmental Secretariat of the state ofMato Grosso, Brazil, on October 07, 2021.
According to the company'sstatement, Aripuan?? is a world-class underground polymetallic mine containingzinc, lead and copper, and concentrate processing facility located in the stateof Mato Grosso, Brazil.
Mechanical completion isexpected in Q4 2021 and commercial production is scheduled to start in 2022, thecompany said.
Nexa is an integrated zincproducer with over 60 years of experience developing and operating mining andsmelting assets in Latin America. Nexa currently owns and operates fivelong-life underground mines - three located in the Central Andes of Peru andtwo located in the state of Minas Gerais in Brazil - and is developing theAripuan?? project as its sixth underground mine in Mato Grosso, Brazil.
Nexa also currently owns andoperates three smelters, two located in Brazil and one in Peru, Cajamarquilla,which is the largest smelter in the Americas. Nexa was among the top fiveproducers of mined zinc globally in 2020 and also one of the top five metalliczinc producers worldwide in 2020, according to Wood Mackenzie.
