Toronto, Ontario, 5 March 2018 - NORCAT, a global leader in the development and provision of skilled labour training and development services, is excited to unveil multiple learning technologies that are poised to transform how the global mining industry trains and educates its workforce.

Over the past three years, NORCAT has engaged multiple stakeholders in the global mining industry to better understand the future of work and learning and how technology will support training and development to ensure mine workers are both safe and productive while on the job. The launch will feature NORCAT's augmented reality (AR) firefighting training simulator and a demonstration of NORCAT's virtual reality (VR) induction training program for both surface and underground mining operations.

"Our work with leading mining companies has demonstrated that, when applied correctly, virtual and augmented reality learning technologies create an engaged-learning experience that drives meaningful learning outcomes and enhances knowledge retention," cites Ed Wisniewski, NORCAT's Director of Technology. "As our products demonstrate, it is the combination of defining the right content, curriculum, and learning outcomes, and understanding the pedagogical aspects of how people learn, that will ultimately determine the success of implementing new training and development technologies in the mining industry."

Don Duval, NORCAT's CEO, emphasizes the importance and expectations of preparing the next generation of the global mining workforce using the right delivery mechanisms. "The world of skilled labour training and development is transforming and new technology is creating an array of opportunities to enhance the training experience. NORCAT remains at the forefront of innovation as a market leader in skilled labour training and development for the global mining industry and continues to develop state of the art technologies for a 'new world of training' in response to this 'new world of work.'"

NORCAT will be debuting the new technologies at the NORCAT experiential booth in the Northern Ontario Pavilion at PDAC 2018 in Toronto. The live demonstration will include the latest in mine skills training technology including AR, VR, interactive multiplayer avatar-based training, incident re-creation, and digital safety systems.
