Nornickel increases Covid-19 financial pledge to $278 million

Russian multi-metal miner Nornickel has pledged 20 billion roubles ($278,080,000) to fight the impact of Covid-19 across 2020, the company said on Friday July 17.

The anti-pandemic financial package will aim to tackle the fallout of the virus for both Nornickel employees and local economies in regions where the company is operative.
Fastmarkets understands that Russia's Arctic region and those working therein will be the primary financial beneficiaries, though the company has non-domestic operations in both Finland and South Africa.

The company's announcement comes one day after the mayor of Norilsk, Rinat Akhmetchin, criticized local authorities for under reporting Covid-19 cases...
