Nornickel stops water inflow at one Siberian mine, confirms production restart plan

Nornickel has stopped the inflow of water at its Oktyabrsky mine, one of two flooded mines in its Norilsk Division, and will resume production at both operations in line with the plan announced earlier this month, the company said on Monday March 29.

The Oktyabrsky and Taimyrsky mines have been closed since February 24 following an inflow of groundwater.

The second stage of the remediation plan for the mines was completed throughout last week, the Russian company said. More than 32,000 tonnes of concrete mixture was poured into the mine workings, and water flow at Oktyabrsky was stopped...
