NORTHERN EUROPE REBAR: Prices surge on costlier feedstock, limited imports

Steel rebar prices in the north of Europe increased sharply over the week to Wednesday amid rising raw material costs and limited supply of material, Fastmarkets heard on May 12.

Fastmarkets' weekly price assessment for steel reinforcing bar (rebar), domestic, delivered Northern Europe was ?,?720-740 ($875-899) per tonne on May 12, up by ?,?60-70 per tonne week on week from ?,?650-680 per tonne.
The assessment was based deals, offers and achievable prices heard in the market over the past week and in particular, several deals reported in Germany at ?,?720-725 per tonne delivered, sources said.
Sources in the German market also reported offers at  ?,?730-750 per tonne delivered but the upper end was not included in the assessment because there was no trading reported at this level yet.
