NORTHERN EUROPE WIRE ROD: Persistent supply-demand imbalance sends prices higher

Steel wire rod prices in Northern Europe increased as expected in the week to Wednesday June 16, mainly propelled by the continuing tightness of supply, but aggravated by restricted access to imports due to the trade safeguard measures currently in place, Fastmarkets has heard.

Fastmarkets' weekly price assessment for steel wire rod (mesh-quality), domestic, delivered Northern Europe, was ?,?860-900 ($1,043-1,091) per tonne on Wednesday, up from ?,?830-850 per tonne delivered last week.
Several bookings were reported in the range of ?,?860-870 per tonne delivered over the week in Germany and the Benelux region, with offers ranging from ?,?870 to ?,?900 per tonne delivered.

One producer in the region claimed to have sold a limited tonnage of July-delivery wire rod at ?,?900 per tonne delivered...
