Ontario Creating Opportunities for Youth in Rainy River

Ontario's government is working for the people of Northern Ontario by investing in job opportunities for young northerners.

Today, Greg Rickford, Minister of Energy, Northern Development and Mines and Chair of the Northern Ontario Heritage Fund Corporation (NOHFC), announced an investment of $31,500 to the Town of Rainy River to promote tourism and community pride in the region while creating a new position.

Specifically, the internship position will assist with the planning, implementation and promotion of community programs, cultural events, activities, and festivals in the area.

"Through the NOHFC's Internship Program, we are providing young northerners with important employment opportunities where they gain up to 12 months of practical experience and develop their skills in a real work environment before entering the job market," said Minister Rickford. "Creating job placements like this one in Rainy River helps retain young people in the area, strengthens the North's competitive advantage and sends a strong signal that Northern Ontario is open for business."

Quick Facts

Since June 2018, the Northern Ontario Heritage Fund Corporation has invested more than $82 million in 539 projects, creating or retaining over 1,437 jobs.The Northern Ontario Internship Program, helps create job placements for young people across the North.
