Ontario Investing in Tourism Infrastructure, Creating Jobs in Killarney

Ontario's government is investing in a conference centre, creating five full-time jobs and 10 seasonal jobs.

Today, Parliamentary Assistant Dave Smith, on behalf of Greg Rickford, Minister of Energy, Northern Development and Mines, announced Killarney Mountain Lodge received $400,000 for the construction of the Canada House conference centre.

The conference centre, built with locally sourced logs and stone, can accommodate 400 people with two large conference rooms, 10 breakout rooms, a fitness facility and two kitchens. The space serves both small and large groups for conferences and weddings.

"Our government is committed to creating good jobs and helping local economies grow," said PA Smith. "This investment will drive growth and tourism in the region and sends a signal to the world that Northern Ontario is open for business."

"We most definitely appreciate NOHFC in their commitment to assist in our vision of job creation and building a crown jewel (Canada House) in one of Canada's crown jewels - Killarney, Ontario," said Holden Rhodes, owner of Killarney Mountain Lodge. "This will go a long way in establishing Killarney as one of the best tourism destinations in Canada."

Killarney Mountain Lodge provides a resort experience for its guests with accommodations, dining options and an array of activities, such as cycling, hiking and water sports.Since June 2018, the Northern Ontario Heritage Fund Corporation has invested more than $120 million in 708 projects, creating or retaining over 2,368 jobs.
