Ontario Supporting Businesses, Creating Jobs in Fort Frances-Rainy River Region

FORT FRANCES - Ontario's government is investing more than $244,000 in three local businesses in the Fort Frances-Rainy River region.

"Through our investments we are sending a message to job creators that the Fort Frances-Rainy River region and all of Northern Ontario is open for business and open for jobs," said Greg Rickford, Minister of Energy, Northern Development and Mines. "We are building a more competitive economy and bolstering communities across the North."

Investments include:

$170,341 for Barker Logging in Devlin to expand production capabilities by constructing a bush shack and purchasing a wood loader, long-haul skidder and truck. $42,650 for Rainy River Future Development Corporation in Fort Frances to develop new economic opportunities in the mining, forestry, digital economy and agriculture sectors through its Diversification and Innovation Project. $31,500 for Rainy River District Regional Abattoir in Emo to hire a marketing intern.

The investments made by the Ontario government will create 13 jobs.

Since June 2018, the Northern Ontario Heritage Fund Corporation has invested more than $120 million in 708 projects, creating or retaining 2,368 jobs.
