THUNDER BAY - Ontario's Government for the People is investing in a new, world class facility at Lakehead University to support research and innovation, creating 67 jobs.

Today, Lakehead University held the grand opening of the Centre for Advanced Studies in Engineering and Sciences. Ontario invested $5 million in the facility.

"Our government for the people is proud to provide students and researchers at Lakehead University with better equipment, training and resources to conduct innovative research, while creating jobs," said Ross Romano, Parliamentary Assistant to the Minister of Energy, Northern Development and Mines.

The 42,000-square-foot facility includes new laboratories and equipment to support the university's advanced research and training needs. It will assist students, researchers and entrepreneurs in developing and commercializing new technologies and products that could benefit natural resource industries in Northern Ontario.

"Our investment further positions Northern Ontario as a leader in innovation and natural resources - sending a clear message that Ontario is Open for Business," said Parliamentary Assistant Romano.
