Ontario's government is supporting tourism in Northern Ontario by investing in the Mount Evergreen Ski area in Kenora.

Today, Greg Rickford, Minister of Energy, Northern Development and Mines, announced an investment of $22,500 for the facility to hire a consultant to develop a sustainable, four-season destination business plan.

Currently, Mount Evergreen operates four months of the year. This project will help the club achieve its goal of becoming a four-season tourism destination in the Kenora area, which would bring more visitors to the area year-round.

"Tourism is a vital economic contributor to four-season destinations such as Kenora," said Minister Rickford. "This investment will drive growth and tourism in the region and is one more way we are signalling to the world that Northern Ontario is open for business and open for jobs," he added.

"The volunteers definitely appreciate NOHFC in their commitment to assist in our vision of expanding our facility to include year-round activities," said Blair McCallum, President, Mount Evergreen Ski Club. "This will go a long way in allowing us to offer more outdoor recreation and tourism opportunities and helping us become a 365-day lifestyle destination while creating more full time and part time jobs in the community."

Helping northern businesses expand is part of the government's balanced and prudent plan to build Ontario together. This plan is already creating more jobs, putting more money in people's pockets, making our communities healthy, our streets safe, our commutes shorter and our government smarter.
