Peru's copper recovery loses steam, Sept output down 15.7% vs last year

The recovery in Peruvian copper output off the 2020 lows, which were caused by action taken to combat Covid-19, lost steam in September, while domestic zinc production continued to climb year year on year, the country's ministry of energy and mines, Minem, said.

Peru produced 171,789 tonnes of copper in September was down by 15.7% from 203,782 tonnes a year earlier, according to Minem data on Tuesday November 3. Output in September was also 11.4% lower than the 193,852 tonnes produced in in August 2020.
"[This decrease] resulted from lower grades of extracted mineral and some scheduled downtime for maintenance on a national level," Minem said.
