RAPAPORT... The World Federation of Diamond Bourses (WFDB) has appointedPeter Meeus as chairman of its World Diamond Mark (WDM) program. Meeus - who will take over from Alex Popov - was president of the DubaiDiamond Exchange from 2009 until earlier this year, and manager of what is now the Antwerp World DiamondCentre from 1999 to 2006. He is also a special adviser to the Central AfricanRepublic's president and ministry of mines, helping it comply with theKimberley Process. "Peter has enormous experience in the diamond sector and is knownthroughout the global diamond trade," WFDB president Ernie Blom said last week."I am sure he will take the WDM on to the next level." The WFDB created the WDM in 2012 as a global marketing campaignfor the diamond industry, to promote trust and boost diamond sales. "TheWorld Diamond Mark aims to build trust in the jewelry shop and, as a result,support demand for diamonds," said Meeus. "Through education and digitalmarketing, the WDM will provide retailers with the tools to showcase theirintegrity and create a consumer confidence program that will strengthen publictrust in diamonds."
