RAPAPORT... The Plumb Club, an alliance of jewelry suppliers, has launched a collaboration with New York's Fashion Institute of Technology (FIT) to help design students enter the industry. The project connects students in FIT's jewelry-design program with Plumb Club members, offering them mentoring, internships and exposure to potential employers, the trade organization said Monday. Students will also explore employment opportunities through an annual live or virtual career day that the Plumb Club and FIT will hold jointly. Three top-ranking graduating students will participate in the Plumb Club's pavilion at JCK Las Vegas."The students who attend FIT's jewelry-design program represent the future of this industry," said Plumb Club president Michael Lerche. "Working with them is one more step in fulfilling the Plumb Club's vision of shaping our industry by fueling a student's passion for a jewelry career, while also exposing our member companies to some of the brightest minds and creative new talent available." The program started during FIT's fall 2020 semester.Image: An FIT student at the bench. (Smiljana Peros/FIT)
