The industry's focus is changing - or, at least, it should be, asserts Esther Oberbeck, senior vice president of strategy, analytics and insights at De Beers.Oberbeck joined the Rapaport Diamond Podcast to discuss some of the key findings from the De Beers Diamond Insight Report, which the company published last week. The report's central theme is sustainability, and it brought some surprising results. The industry excels in its honesty and transparency; its high-quality product and design; its prestigious branding; and the treatment of its employees, she stresses. It needs to build on those factors through effective sustainability programs, she argues.The report, which, according to Oberbeck, is the most colorful and in-depth De Beers has produced, sets a marker for the trade.
