POLAND REBAR: Prices dip on slower buying

Poland's rebar producers had to cut their domestic prices this week to spur slow buying activity, with market participants expecting a price rollover in the coming weeks, sources told Fastmarkets on Friday October 23.

Buying appetite among Polish rebar buyers was moderate during the assessment week, sources said.
"Demand started to slow in mid-October after the end of a restocking campaign. Some distributors started to lower their prices and mills had to follow the move. October demand is worse than in September," one trader said.
"Demand is not bad, but prices were too high, so producers had to step back," a second trader said.
"Construction is still rather stable but probably will slow down in the coming months for seasonal reasons," a third trader said.
Fastmarkets' weekly price assessment for steel reinforcing bar (rebar), domestic, exw Poland, was 1,960-2,000 zloty ($506-517) per tonne on October 23, down from 2,000-2,050 zloty per tonne a week earlier.
The assessment was based on deals and achievable prices heard within the price range.
