U.K. politicians resumed election campaigning Monday following the weekend's deadly terrorist attack in London, with leaders likely to focus the final days of debate into Thursday's vote on national security.

The Conservative, Labour and Liberal Democrat parties had suspended national campaigning Sunday after the London Bridge and Borough Market attacks as mark of respect for the seven people killed and 48 injured, but resumed criticism of each other's security polices Monday as Prime Minister Theresa May vowed that "enough is enough" in the wake of the country's third terrorist atrocity in as many months.

London Metropolitan Police carried out fresh raids Monday in connection with their investigation into the attack, following the arrest of 12 people Sunday. However, Met Commissioner Cressida Dick told Sky News earlier today that "there does appear to be a changing threat."

The so-called Islamic State claimed responsibility, with a Sunday statement from the Amaq media agency website declaring that "A detachment of ... fighters executed yesterday's London attack". News broke on Monday that police will release the names of the attacks later in the day.

Saturday's attack followed two other similar incidents in the past 10 weeks. In late May, 20 people were killed when a suicide bomber hit an Ariana Grande concert in Manchester. Another five people were killed when an SUV was driven at speed across Westminster Bridge in late March.

Britons will head to the polls Thursday to vote in the country's second general election since 2015 with Labour Party Leader Jeremy Corbyn vowing to commission a report on the changing nature of terrorist threat and criticizing May for ignoring the impact of police cuts.

May said there was "a new trend in the threat we face" and called for changes on four fronts - dissuading people from following an extremist ideology; a clampdown on internet sites that breed terrorism; action at home where extremism may be tolerated; and review of counter-terrorism strategy and law, during a Sunday statement outside Downing Street.

Recently-released polls have suggested May's Conservative party is losing its seemingly insurmountable lead, with a YouGov survey giving the party a four-point lead over Labour and suggesting she may win 305 seats Thursday, falling short of the 326 level needed to secure a majority. However, an ICM poll published in the Guardian newspaper Monday pegged the Conservative's lead at 11 points over their Labour rivals, a view which helped push the pound over the $1.29 barrier against the U.S. dollar.

Police have not publicly identified the attackers and were asking the media to do the same after pictures of the three perpetrators were made public. However, one of the victims has been identified as Canadian national Christine Archibald, who moved to the Netherlands several months ago and was visiting London for the weekend.
