(IDEX Online) - Police say most of the $129m treasures stolen from the The Green Vault museum, Dresden, Germany, in November 2019, have now been recovered. It follows negotiations between prosecutors in an ongoing trial and the six defendants, all members of the same family. They are accused of the organized robbery of 4,300 diamonds in what has been described as the world's biggest gem heist, and of arson - starting a fire to disrupt the power supply to street lights before the raid. The 21 stolen treasures from one of Europe's greatest art collections a included the famous 18th century 49-carat Dresden white diamond bought by August the Strong, then Elector of Saxony, and valued at $12m, as well as a sword encrusted with nine large and 770 smaller diamonds.Prosecutors believe the raiders sawed through part of a window grating before the heist.Police pic shows some of the priceless treasures that were stolen.
