PRICING NOTICE: Changes to Fastmarkets' hard coking coal indices

July 19, 2019 / www.metalbulletin.com / Article Link

Fastmarkets will change a portion of the specifications of its fob DBCT and cfr Jingtang hard coking coal indices to align with those for materials typically sold in this segment of the seaborne spot market.

These changes incorporate feedback obtained from the market during a month-long consultation. They will now be applied from Thursday August 1, instead of Friday July 19 as stated in the previous pricing notice.
The new specifications are as follows:

Coke strength after reaction (CSR): Base 62%; Minimum 57%
Volatile matter: Base 21.5%; Range 18.5-27%
Ash: Base 8%; Maximum 11%
Sulfur: Base 0.50%; Maximum 1%
Total moisture: Base 10.5%
Crucible swelling number (CSN): Base 7; Minimum 6
Fluidity: Minimum 10 dial divisions per minute (ddpm)
Phosphorus: Base 0.06%, Range 0.04-0.08%
Mean maximum reflectance: Base 1.25%, Range 1.00-1.50%

The inputs for the calculation of Fastmarkets' daily hard coking coal indices comprise both transaction and non-transaction data points. As per published methodology, transaction data points are weighted at full tonnage in the calculation of these indices.

Data points for each brand are normalized based on their monthly co-efficients that are calculated using the preceding month's inputs. These co-efficients are updated on the first working day of each month.
