Rare 3-carat Goloconda Diamond could Fetch $200,000

(IDEX Online) - An extremely rare 3.05-carat Type IIa Goloconda diamond could fetch $200,000 at auction in New York.The diamond, set in a ring (pictured) being auctioned is a Pear-Shaped D/IF from a respected New York estate, says the Fortuna Auction House.India's Goloconda mines were famed for the Koh-i-Noor and other diamonds of remarkable quality, whiteness and clarity, but ceased production in the 17th century.Bidding will open at $100,000 in the March Jewels & Watches auction on 4 March and the estimate is $150,000 to $200,000.Type IIa diamonds show an absence of nitrogen particles???,?"chemical impurities that give 98-99% of diamonds a slight yellow tinge. Such diamonds are exceedingly rare and hardly ever come to market. Fortuna says it has only ever sold three other diamonds GIA-certified as Type IIa.
