Recycler EMR cuts more UK operations due to coronavirus

European Metal Recycling (EMR) has shut down more of its operations in the United Kingdom due to the Covid-19 pandemic, after announcing closures in March.

EMR has closed one site on the south coast of England and one site in Bedfordshire for metal recycling activity, the company told Fastmarkets. The company did not given further details on the location of the sites, although industry sources suggest that the Newhaven site on the south coast and Biggleswade in Bedfordshire are the sites that have closed.
It is also unclear how much steel scrap will be affected on an annualized basis, although one industry source said the loss in scrap throughput will be negligible and that the two shuttered sites were used only for "shearing purposes." No EMR dockside port operations are affected, the source said.
