Reviewed safeguard measures proposed by the European Commission (EC) disregard the sharp drop in European steel demand due to the Covid-19 pandemic, putting the industry at further risk, the chief executive officers of the EU steel industry and European steel association Eurofer said in a joint statement on Monday June 8.
"The European steel industry's survival is at further, serious risk because the [EC's] steel safeguard review proposal does not consider the sharp collapse in demand following the Covid-19 pandemic. The tariff-free quota should reflect EU steel demand.
