Rolled steel output at Brazil's Usiminas up nearly 19% yoy in Q1

Usiminas' steel production and shipments rose during the first quarter, with the steelmaker increasing capacity to meet growing demand in Brazil, it said on Monday March 22.

The Brazilian steelmaker produced 1.11 million tonnes of rolled steel in the first quarter up to March 20, or an average 14,038 tonnes per day - up by 18.84% from 11,813 tonnes per day in the whole first quarter 2020 and by 12.99% from 12,424 tonnes daily in the fourth quarter.

Steel slab production reached 680,000 tonnes, or 8,608 tonnes per day, from January 1 through March 20 - a 1.59% increase from 8,473 tonnes per day in the first quarter last year and rising by 4.20% from 8,261 tonnes per day...
