In defiance of the old clich?(C), bigger might just be better, especially when it comes to gold coins, or at least the Royal Canadian Mint thinks so.
March 2 the Canadian Mint unveiled a 10kg Gold Maple Leaf (GML) coin at the Prospectors and Developers Association of Canada 2020 mining conference. In total, 10 coins have been created and they are the latest Canadian Maple Leaf coins the Mint has created, with the signature purity of 99.999%.
"We are the only Mint in the world to refine gold to that purity and we were really delighted to be able to put that into this fantastic tribute to the GML that is recognized as one of the best gold bullion coins in the world," Alex Reeves, senior manager of communications at the Royal Canadian Mint told Kitco News on the sidelines of the PDAC.
While the mint has created 10 of these coins, only five are still available.
