The domestic rebar market in Russia's Central Federal District around Moscow declined slightly the week to Monday January 25 amid slow market activity due to seasonal factors and the possibility of an export duty, several sources told Fastmarkets.
Construction activity in Russia, the main market for rebar, typically slows in late autumn and early winter due to poor weather conditions and does not start to recover again until late March.Meanwhile, the region's rebar market was digesting news of the possibility of export duties on steel rebar and billet which Russia's Federal Antimonopoly Service (FAS) suggested to provide domestic consumers with metal products at reasonable prices.
