Scotia Capital Inc. is facing a wrongful dismissal lawsuit in the Supreme Court of British Columbia from Duncan Todd Ferguson, its former managing director for Western Canada. According to the suit, Scotia Capital fired Mr. Ferguson from his $1-million-per-year job without any good reason and with no notice. He claims that finding a new job is difficult for him, as there are few openings suitable to his skills.
The allegations are contained in a notice of claim that Mr. Ferguson filed on March 29, 2018, at the Vancouver courthouse. The suit briefly describes how Mr. Ferguson started in the investment business, beginning at TD Waterhouse in 1994 and going to Scotia Capital in 2003. He claims to have had a large book of business by that time.
