Seaborne manganese ore prices rise again but at slower rate

The seaborne prices of both low and high-grade manganese ore rose but at a slower rate in the week to Friday January 15 following weakness emerging in the portside market, sources said.

Fastmarkets' manganese ore index 37% Mn, cif Tianjin climbed up by 5 cents or 1.1% week on week to $4.58 per dry metric tonne unit (dmtu) on Friday from $4.53 per dmtu the previous week.
Fastmarkets' manganese ore index 37% Mn, fob Port Elizabeth edged down by 2 cents or 0.5% to $3.78 per dmtu on Friday from $3.80 per dmtu on January 8.
Fastmarkets' manganese ore index 44% Mn, cif Tianjin rose by 7 cents or 1.4% week on week to $4.96 per dmtu on Friday, up from $4.89 per dmtu the week before.
Liquidity was significantly lower week on week following a high volume of transactions and surge in prices in the previous session, which led prices to jump as much as 14% in a week.
