(Kitco News) - Harmony Gold Mining todayreported that two employees were fatally injured in the earlyhours of Thursday morning, following a seismic event resulting in a fall ofground at its Kusasalethu mine, near Carletonville, in the Gauteng province ofSouth Africa.
"The board, executives andmanagement of Harmony are deeply saddened by this tragic incident. We extendour thoughts and prayers to the families, friends and colleagues of our deceasedcolleagues," Peter Steenkamp, chief executive officer
of Harmony stated.
The company added that therelevant authorities and stakeholders have been informed.
"While mining activity in theaffected area has been stopped, safety shifts have also been enforced acrossthe mine, pending a formal investigation," the company said in a statement.
