This is Acts chapter 13 part 12 in which we look at Paul's call to all men to believe on Jesus Christ at the Synagogue at Antioch. Self-deception is what it is a called from a scholarly standpoint. We understand that Satan the father of all lies is actually the propagator of this and works in the minds of those in unbelief. Scholars state that self-deception is a thought-process in which a person will deny and then often rationalize opposing evidence contrary to their held beliefs. In the world of psychology self-deception is a very phenomenal act that has proven incredibly difficult to fully-understand. We understand it because it stems from a spiritual issue! From an evolutionary stand-point it has been stated that self-deception is an evolutionary trait because there exists a strong desire and capacity to lie in every man for gain. Further, many theories have stated that in order to better deceive others, and really to never be caught in a lie, self-deception increases as time goes on.
