Silicon price slump drives Ferroglobe to extend outages

Ferroglobe Plc plans to reduce silicon metal and alloy production by extending or bringing forward several planned outages during the fourth quarter, the company announced on Friday October 4.

The leading global silicon metal producer, which faces falling silicon prices, did not specify the tonnages involved in the latest cuts, which include: In France, three silicon furnaces will be idled on October 7, two in Montricher and one in Laudun.Two French furnaces producing ferro-silicon in Chateau-Feuillet were idled on September 30, 2019, and a third - in Laudun - will be idled on November 15.The silicon plant in Polokwane, South Africa, has been idled since August 1.Silicon production has been reduced at the plant in Sabon, Spain.In North America, Canada's B?(C)cancour, Qu?(C)bec, joint-venture facility producing silicon metal idled its No4 furnace on...
