The lengthy legal dispute in the Supreme Court of British Columbia between Silvercorp Metals Inc. and Vancouver's Kun Huang has come to an abrupt end, with Mr. Huang dropping the lawsuit. Mr. Huang had claimed that Silvercorp had him arrested and detained for three years in China. He said that his arrest came after he did some of the work that led to the well-publicized Alfred Little report that targeted Silvercorp in 2011.

The end of the case is contained in a consent order dated March 15, 2018. The order simply states that the case is dismissed, with each side to pay its own legal fees. (Those legal fees are sure to be considerable, given the numerous court appearances and filings in the four-year-old case. The appearances included one trip to the Court of Appeal for British Columbia.) Lawyers for each of the parties signed the order.

The case had originally been set down as a jury trial, to last up to 40 days. It was later set down for a judge alone, this time for up to 60 days. The trial was to have begun on Feb. 26, 2018, but was cancelled at the request of one or both sides.
