The Society for Mining, Metallurgy & Exploration (SME) announced Friday it will present the International Conference on Ground Control in Mining (ICGCM), to be held July 28-30, 2020 in Canonsburg, Pennsylvania.

The three-day symposium will be attended by practitioners from across the globe.

Dr. Syd S. Peng created the ICGCM in 1981 to provide a forum to promote communication among stakeholders including academia, consultants, government regulators, manufacturers, mine operators, researchers and support service providers.

The 2020 ICGCM gives attendees the chance to participate in a forum designed to promote communication and to find solutions to ground control problems in mining. The overall conference sponsor is Jennmar USA.

More than 1,800 papers have been published on ground control issues as a result of these conferences. Presentations during the 2020 conference will address topics including:

Extreme Ground Conditions - Dynamic Collapse, Bumps and RockburstsMine Case HistoriesIn-situ Stress and Global StabilityNumerical Modeling Applications in Ground ControlFundamental Ground Control StudiesRockmass Support PerformanceNew Ground Control Products and EquipmentDevelopment Ground Instrumentation and Monitoring StudiesSubsurface Subsidence

The annual Syd S. and Felicia F. Peng Ground Control in Mining Award and several scholarships were established with SME in 2005 to promote and encourage the continuing development of ground control technology and education in mining.
