SHANGHAI, Apr 12 (SMM) – High-nickel ternary cathode materials are expected to lead the market by 2025 with surging demand, according to She Shengxian, research and development manager at Ningbo Ronbay Material.

This is due to its “exceptional performance” in terms of capacity, circulation, discharge rate, and resistance to high temperature, he told delegates at the SMM CoLiNi Summit in Quzhou, Zhejiang on Thursday April 12.

By 2025, high-nickel ternary cathode materials are seen to account for two-thirds of the ternary cathode market share, and that consumption of NCM811 is expected to grow exponentially.

She believes the growth rate of electric cars in China will outpace that of traditional ones, with the number expected to increase 22 times to 17 million units by 2025, from 2015. Traditional automobiles, on the other hand, are only expected to reach 100 million units by 2025, up 11% from 2015.
