This Spring, Sotheby's Magnificent Jewels and Jadeite auction in Hong Kong promises to deliver "a wealth of color and design through rare gems and intricately crafted jewels." The auction house will feature signed pieces by legendary maisons, such as an exquisite emerald and diamond necklace by Van Cleef & Arpels, alongside a specially curated collection of colored gemstones and colored diamonds of exceptional quality.
The centre stage, however, will be occupied by a coloress, D-Flawless, Type IIa diamond of 88.22 carat. The diamond is one of only three oval diamonds over 50 carats "to appear at auction in living memory."
"Perfect according to every criteria," the 88.22-carat, D Color, Flawless, Type IIa, oval brilliant diamond is the highlight of the upcoming sale of Sotheby's Magnificent Jewels and Jadeite on April 2, in Hong Kong. The auction house has high expectations of the stone, as in China and other Asian cultures, the number eight is considered lucky - a symbol of perfection and eternity, associated with prosperity.
